Objective:
This presentation traces the historical origins of neuropsychology in Greece. While the study of brain-behavior relationships can be traced back to ancient Greece, neuropsychology as a research discipline did not begin to develop until the 1970s within psychiatry, while graduate training programs for psychologists interested in providing neuropsychological services were not established until the 2000s. Since that time, a number of positive developments, including the establishment of the Division of Neuropsychology in the Hellenic Psychological Society, and the Hellenic Neuropsychological Society, as well as Greece’s representation in the Standing Committee on Clinical Neuropsychology of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Association have been essential in the continued development of research and training programs in Greece.
