Keyword 1: mild cognitive impairment

Objective:

The present study aims to describe App-Based cognitive retraining approach using Digital Cognitive Augmentation Programme (D-CAP )for Mild cognitive impairment(MCI).

Participants and Methods:

The sample consisted of 4 patients diagnosed with Mild cognitive impairment evaluated on the NIMHANS Neuropsychological battery for the elderly((Tripathi, Kumar, Bharath, Marimuthu, & Varghese, 2013) pre and post-intervention. The other outcome scales included the Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in Elderly (IQCODE) (Jorm, 2004), the NIMHANS Cognitive complaint scale(Sowparnika & Kumar et al. 2021), Mild Behavioral impairment checklist ( Ismail et al. 2017), Quality of life in Alzheimer’s disease(QOL-AD) and Instrumental activities of daily living in elderly- IADL-EDR(Mathuranath et al., 2005). All the scales were used pre and post-intervention. The intervention was provided for 30 sessions over one and a half months. The program targeted multiple cognitive domains such as attention, working memory, visual learning, and memory and response inhibition at increasing difficulty levels.

Results:

The results showed post-intervention improvements in executive functions,  learning, memory, and other outcome measures such as quality of life and behavioral and psychological symptoms. There were no technical difficulties associated with the app reported. The patients were motivated to engage in the app-based cognitive retraining. There was generalization to outcome measures, and the caretaker corroborated this.

Conclusions:

The result showed that the App (D-CAP) effectively improves cognition, quality of life, and symptom reduction in Mild cognitive impairment.
